In this study, we analyse the personal networks of more than 4000 European workers to understand how different work arrangements shape support, conflict, and access to social resources.

Among the main findings:

⚠️ workers who telework less than they would like tend to report higher levels of conflict in their personal networks

🌍 remote workers have geographically more extended professional networks, while maintaining similar levels of emotional closeness with colleagues

🏠 hybrid work is associated with higher levels of conflict at home

👥 remote workers report similar levels of social support than on-site workers

🏢 managers are reported as the most conflictive relationships within personal networks

Social network analysis can help us better understand remote work and this paper represents a small milestone for The Empty Office project – Swiss Network for International Studies (SNIS) University of Geneva
